Description

A delightful traditional Italian Margherita pizza with fresh ingredients and a crispy crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water (110°F or 43°C)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Olive oil (for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt together.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 500°F (260°C) with a pizza stone inside for 30 minutes.
  7. Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a 12-inch circle.
  8. Spread the pizza sauce evenly on the dough, then add slices of mozzarella.
  9. Transfer the pizza to the preheated pizza stone and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  10. Remove the pizza from the oven, top with fresh basil, and drizzle with olive oil.

Notes

This recipe serves 4. You can add toppings like pepperoni or vegetables as desired. A pizza peel makes transferring the pizza easier.
