Description

A family favorite, these easy oven-baked baked beans are savory, sweet, and perfect for gatherings or cozy dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups Dried Beans (Navy, Pinto, or Kidney) (Soaked overnight)
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 23 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Yellow Mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Black Pepper
  • 2 cups Water or Vegetable Broth

Instructions

  1. Soak the dried beans overnight in plenty of water. The next day, drain and rinse them thoroughly.
  2. In a large pot, add the soaked beans and cover with fresh water or vegetable broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 45 minutes to an hour until tender. Drain and set aside.
  3. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  4. In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  5. Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.
  6. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked beans, sautéed onion and garlic, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, apple cider vinegar, and season with salt and pepper. Mix well.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and spread evenly. Cover tightly with aluminum foil.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour. Remove foil, stir gently, and bake uncovered for an additional 30 minutes.
  9. Once done, let the beans cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding chopped bell peppers or bacon. If you prefer a thicker sauce, reduce the water or broth. Don’t skip the overnight soaking for tender beans.
