Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries (about 8 oz)
- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup apple cider vinegar
- ¼ cup orange juice
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Peel, core, and chop the apples. Rinse the cranberries and remove any stems or damaged berries.
- In a saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon of oil. Cook the onion and ginger for 3–4 minutes until they soften.
- Stir in the cranberries, apples, brown sugar, vinegar, orange juice, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat. Cook uncovered for 20–25 minutes until the fruit softens and the mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat and let it sit for 15–20 minutes. The chutney will thicken more as it cools.
- Transfer to clean jars or containers. Refrigerate once cooled. You can serve it warm, at room temperature, or chilled.
Notes
Adjust the sweetness by increasing brown sugar or add heat with red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
