Ingredients

  • Gai lan (Chinese broccoli) – 1/2 pound
  • Bell peppers – 1-2 large
  • Garlic, minced – 3 cloves
  • Canola oil – 3 tablespoons
  • Dark soy sauce – 2 tablespoons
  • Oyster sauce – 2 tablespoons
  • Cornflour – 1 tablespoon
  • Soy sauce – 1 1/2 tablespoons
  • Chinese cooking wine – 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil – 1/2 teaspoon
  • White pepper – a dash

Instructions

  1. Heat canola oil in a wok over high heat until hot.
  2. Add minced garlic and stir-fry for 30 seconds.
  3. Add gai lan and bell peppers, and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until they are crisp.
  4. Mix in dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, soy sauce, Chinese cooking wine, sesame oil, and white pepper.
  5. Thicken with cornflour mixed in water, and stir to coat the vegetables.
  6. Cook for an additional minute and serve hot.

Notes

This dish pairs well with rice or noodles. Adjust the sauces to taste for a stronger flavor.
