- 2 lbs pork shoulder
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 2 tbsp rice wine
- 1 tbsp five-spice powder
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp red food coloring (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Mix together honey, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice wine, five-spice powder, garlic, and food coloring in a bowl.
- Marinate the pork shoulder in the mixture for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place the marinated pork on a baking sheet and roast for about 30-40 minutes, basting with the marinade every 10 minutes.
- Once the meat is caramelized and cooked through, let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
- Serve sliced with your choice of sides.
Notes
Char siu can be served hot, cold, or as part of dim sum. For extra flavor, consider adding some chili paste to the marinade for a spicy kick.
