Description

A fun twist on a classic grilled cheese sandwich using crispy waffles and a sweet-savory filling of cheese and jam.


Ingredients

  • 4 waffles
  • 12 tablespoons softened cream cheese or mascarpone
  • 2 ounces shredded sharp cheddar or gruyère
  • 1 tablespoon fruit jam, Nutella, or sliced fruit
  • 1 teaspoon butter per side

Instructions

  1. Toast 4 waffles until just crisp.
  2. Spread 1–2 tablespoons of cream cheese or mascarpone on one waffle.
  3. Add 2 ounces of shredded sharp cheddar or gruyère on top.
  4. Top with 1 tablespoon of fruit jam, Nutella, or sliced fruit.
  5. Butter the outsides of the sandwich lightly with 1 teaspoon of butter per side.
  6. Cook in a preheated nonstick skillet over medium heat (about 325°F) for 3–4 minutes per side until golden and the cheese melts.
  7. Let the sandwich rest for 1 minute before cutting.
