Description

A delightful dessert combining cinnamon, nutmeg, and fresh apples, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • ¼ cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1 tbsp melted butter (for brushing apples)
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin pieces. Optionally, toss them in a little cinnamon and sugar.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, add the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry mixture into the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and arrange the sliced apples on top.
  8. Brush the apples with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar if desired.
  9. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the cake is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

This cake can be served plain or topped with powdered sugar. Pair it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.
