Description

These Spicy Jalapeño Cheddar Bagels deliver a bold flavor with a chewy texture, perfect for breakfast sandwiches or as a snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/4 cups (300 ml) warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 4 cups (500 g) bread flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup (about 4 oz / 115 g) shredded sharp cheddar
  • 12 finely diced jalapeños (remove seeds for milder heat)

Instructions

  1. Start by activating yeast in warm water with honey.
  2. Mix bread flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Knead in cheddar and jalapeños until smooth, about 8-10 minutes by hand.
  4. Let the dough rise until doubled, about 1 hour or refrigerate overnight.
  5. Divide into 8 pieces, shape into balls, and poke holes to form rings.
  6. Boil each bagel in simmering water with honey and baking soda for 1 minute per side.
  7. Drain and bake on a preheated baking sheet at 425°F (220°C) for 18–25 minutes until deep golden.

Notes

Serve with cream cheese or use as breakfast sandwich bases. Store at room temperature for 2 days or freeze for 3 months.
