Ingredients

- 4 cups bread flour (about 500 g)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons instant or active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons softened butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Mix warm milk with yeast and sugar in a bowl and let sit until bubbly.
- Add flour, salt, and softened butter to the mixture.
- Knead until smooth and elastic (8–10 minutes with a stand mixer, 12–15 minutes by hand).
- Let dough rise in a warm place until doubled (about 1 hour).
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a 9×5-inch loaf.
- Proof until puffy (30–45 minutes).
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes until internal temp reaches 190–200°F (88–93°C).
- Brush with melted butter immediately after baking.
Notes
Store at room temperature for 2 days or freeze slices for up to 3 months. Brush with butter for a softer crust.
