Ingredients

- 4 cups bread flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- Coarse sea salt for sprinkling
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
- Add bread flour and salt to the yeast mixture and stir until combined. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Let the dough rise in a warm area until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
- Divide the dough and roll each piece into ropes. Shape into pretzel forms.
- Carefully boil each pretzel in the baking soda solution for 30 seconds, then place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Remove and brush with melted butter, then sprinkle with coarse salt.
Notes
For a sweeter version, add cinnamon sugar after baking. Experiment with toppings like sesame seeds or garlic powder.
