- 4 cups bread flour (or all-purpose flour)
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 cloves garlic, minced (or 1 teaspoon garlic powder)
- 1 teaspoon dried herbs (optional)
- 1 egg (optional, for richness)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center, pour in the yeast mixture, melted butter, and beaten egg.
- Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Punch down the dough and shape into rolls. Place on a greased baking sheet.
- Let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes.
- Brush the tops with melted garlic butter and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush again with garlic butter right out of the oven before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, add cheese on top of the rolls in the last five minutes of baking. You can store leftovers in a plastic bag or freeze them wrapped in foil.
