- 1 onion, diced
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 cup red wine
- 1 can (28 ounces) San Marzano tomatoes, crushed
- 1 cup milk
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
- Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- In a large Dutch oven, sauté the diced onions, celery, and carrots over medium heat until soft.
- Add ground beef and pork, browning the meat for rich flavor.
- Pour in the red wine and let it reduce for a few minutes.
- Add the crushed tomatoes and stir to combine.
- Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for 1.5 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in the milk towards the end of cooking, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve over pasta, and garnish with fresh basil or parsley.
Notes
For the best flavor, allow the sauce to simmer longer and taste before serving to adjust seasoning.
