Description

A rich and hearty Bolognese sauce perfect for pasta or as a base for lasagna, developed through traditional Italian cooking techniques.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 can (28 ounces) San Marzano tomatoes, crushed
  • 1 cup milk
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large Dutch oven, sauté the diced onions, celery, and carrots over medium heat until soft.
  2. Add ground beef and pork, browning the meat for rich flavor.
  3. Pour in the red wine and let it reduce for a few minutes.
  4. Add the crushed tomatoes and stir to combine.
  5. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for 1.5 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  6. Stir in the milk towards the end of cooking, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve over pasta, and garnish with fresh basil or parsley.

Notes

For the best flavor, allow the sauce to simmer longer and taste before serving to adjust seasoning.
