- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 carrots, finely chopped
- 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground pork
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) San Marzano tomatoes
- 1 cup dry red wine
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Olive oil for sautéing
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add finely chopped onion, carrots, and celery. Sauté until soft and fragrant, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add ground beef and pork. Brown the meat, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic, dried oregano, and dried basil. Cook for another 2 minutes.
- Add the San Marzano tomatoes and dry red wine. Season with salt and pepper.
- Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and stir occasionally, allowing the sauce to simmer for at least 2 hours.
- Adjust seasoning before serving. Serve over spaghetti, polenta, or use in lasagna.
Notes
For added depth, use high-quality meat and fresh herbs. If the sauce is too acidic, add a teaspoon of sugar.
