Description

A stunning dessert with a perfect balance of flavor and texture, featuring a rich cocoa-infused batter and creamy filling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • Parchment paper (for baking)
  • Filling (cream cheese or chocolate ganache)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and sugar.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, vegetable oil, buttermilk, and red food coloring.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into a jelly roll pan lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Roll the warm cake with a damp towel to form a spiral.
  8. Let it cool, then spread the filling and re-roll carefully.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Rolling the cake while it’s warm helps prevent cracking. Chill before slicing for neat cuts.
