Description
A rich and creamy chocolate mousse that’s perfect for any dessert lover. Light and airy, this classic treat is a crowd-pleaser.

- 8 oz dark chocolate (around 70% cocoa), chopped
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 large eggs, separated
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a double boiler, melt the dark chocolate and butter together, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar until pale and creamy. Gradually stir in the melted chocolate mixture.
- In another bowl, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Gently fold the cream into the chocolate mixture.
- In a separate clean bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Fold the egg whites into the chocolate mixture gently, being careful not to deflate.
- Spoon the mixture into serving dishes and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until set.
- Serve chilled, optionally topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
Notes
For a lighter version, you can substitute half of the heavy cream with whipped egg whites. Make sure to use pasteurized eggs if you’re concerned about raw egg consumption.
