Ingredients
Scale
- 10 cups day-old sourdough or French bread, cubed
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 large onion, diced
- 3 stalks celery, chopped
- 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon dried sage
- 1 teaspoon thyme (fresh or dried)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your baking dish.
- Cube the day-old bread and let it dry out if needed.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and sauté the diced onions and chopped celery until soft, about 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine the sautéed vegetables with the dried bread cubes. Pour in the chicken broth while gently tossing to moisten the bread evenly. Season with sage, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Transfer the mixture to the baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for about 30 minutes. Remove the foil for the last 10 minutes for a golden crust.
- Let the stuffing cool slightly before serving.
