Ingredients
Scale
- 4 lbs pork butt or country-style ribs
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 1/4 cup Shao Hsing rice wine
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- 2 minced garlic cloves
Instructions
- Marinate the pork by combining all ingredients in a bowl, ensuring the meat is evenly coated.
- Poke the meat 10-12 times with a fork to help it absorb the marinade.
- Cover and refrigerate for 3-5 hours, or up to 24 hours for more flavor.
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
- Place the marinated pork on a rack in a roasting pan.
- Roast for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, basting occasionally with leftover marinade.
- Let the pork rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For a healthier version, use lean pork cuts and lower sugar in the marinade. Try to cook at lower temperatures to minimize health risks.
