A fresh and flavorful homemade spaghetti sauce using ripe tomatoes and aromatic herbs.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 ripe Roma tomatoes, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Start by chopping your onions and mincing the garlic.
  2. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until they’re translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Toss in the minced garlic and dried oregano, stirring for about a minute until everything smells heavenly.
  4. Add your diced tomatoes (juices and all) and give it a good stir.
  5. Season your sauce with salt, pepper, and a sprinkle of sugar. Let it simmer on low heat for about 30 minutes to let all those flavors meld together.
  6. Just before serving, stir in the fresh basil for that extra pop of flavor!

Notes

For a meat sauce, add ground beef or sausage when sautéing the onions. For a spicier kick, include red pepper flakes.
