Ingredients
Scale
- 6 ripe Roma tomatoes, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Start by chopping your onions and mincing the garlic.
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until they’re translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Toss in the minced garlic and dried oregano, stirring for about a minute until everything smells heavenly.
- Add your diced tomatoes (juices and all) and give it a good stir.
- Season your sauce with salt, pepper, and a sprinkle of sugar. Let it simmer on low heat for about 30 minutes to let all those flavors meld together.
- Just before serving, stir in the fresh basil for that extra pop of flavor!
Notes
For a meat sauce, add ground beef or sausage when sautéing the onions. For a spicier kick, include red pepper flakes.
