Description

Delightful homemade pickled pearl onions that add a tangy burst of flavor to salads, sandwiches, and charcuterie boards.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups pearl onions
  • 1 cup vinegar (apple cider or white wine)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • Spices (mustard seeds, black peppercorns, dill, red pepper flakes, optional)
  • Sugar or honey (optional for sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Blanch the pearl onions in boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then drain and cool.
  2. In a saucepan, combine vinegar, water, salt, and chosen spices, and bring to a simmer.
  3. Pour the warm mixture over the onions in a glass jar.
  4. Let the onions steep as they cool, then refrigerate for a minimum of a few hours, preferably 24 hours for best flavor.

Notes

Pickled onions improve in flavor after a day or two in the refrigerator. Keep them stored in an airtight container and consume within 2 weeks.
