Description

A simple, old-fashioned treat allowing control over flavor, color, and sweetness that makes for great homemade gifts.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup (or glucose)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 12 teaspoons flavor extract
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water in a heavy-bottomed saucepan.
  2. Heat over medium-high until the mixture reaches 300°F (149°C).
  3. Remove from heat, swirl in flavor extract and food coloring.
  4. Pour into prepared molds or onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Cool until hard, about 15–30 minutes.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for 4–8 weeks. Use parchment paper between layers to prevent sticking.
