Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups warm milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Proof the yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar until bubbling.
  2. Add melted butter, more sugar, and flour. Mix by hand until combined.
  3. Knead the dough until sticky, then cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down the dough and shape into small balls.
  5. Place shaped rolls into a greased baking dish and let rise again.
  6. Bake at 375°F (190°C) until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  7. Brush with melted butter before serving.

Notes

For extra soft rolls, substitute half the milk with buttermilk. You can also freeze baked or unbaked rolls.
