Description

A warm and comforting casserole that combines savory ground beef, sweet caramelized onions, and creamy rice, evoking the flavors of French onion soup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 2 cups cooked long-grain rice
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup Gruyère or Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Sauté onions in olive oil over medium-low heat until golden and caramelized, about 20-30 minutes.
  2. In a separate pan, brown the ground beef until fully cooked.
  3. In a casserole dish, combine the cooked beef, caramelized onions, broth, rice, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Top with shredded cheese.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes, until bubbly.

Notes

For extra flavor, use low-sodium beef broth. You can also replace the rice with quinoa for a gluten-free option.
