Description

A creamy, savory dip made with slow-caramelized onions that is perfect for parties and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large yellow onions (about 2 lb), thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 cup dry white wine (or 1 tablespoon sherry vinegar)
  • 1 cup full-fat sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 ounces softened cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chopped chives

Instructions

  1. Slowly cook sliced onions in butter and olive oil over medium-low heat, stirring every 4–5 minutes for 30–40 minutes until deep golden brown.
  2. Deglaze with white wine and cook for an additional 2 minutes, then cool completely.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, and cream cheese until smooth.
  4. Add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, black pepper, and chives; mix well.
  5. Fold in the cooled caramelized onions.
  6. Chill for at least 1 hour before serving to allow flavors to meld.

Notes

Can be served with chips, veggies, or as a sandwich spread. Store in an airtight container for 3–4 days.
