Description

A hearty and flavorful dish perfect for family gatherings and barbecues, these oven-baked beans are sweet yet tangy and easy to make.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups Dried Beans (Navy, Pinto, or Kidney) (Soaked overnight)
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 23 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Yellow Mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Black Pepper
  • 2 cups Water or Vegetable Broth

Instructions

  1. Soak the dried beans overnight in plenty of water. Drain and rinse them thoroughly.
  2. In a large pot, cover the soaked beans with fresh water or vegetable broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 45 minutes to 1 hour until tender. Drain and set aside.
  3. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  4. In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  5. Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.
  6. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked beans, sautéed onion and garlic, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, apple cider vinegar, and season with salt and pepper. Mix well.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish, cover tightly with aluminum foil, and bake for 1 hour.
  8. Remove the foil, stir gently, and bake uncovered for an additional 30 minutes.
  9. Let the beans cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

You can customize the sweetness by adjusting the brown sugar and add smoked paprika or bacon for a smokier flavor.
