Description

Delicious skewered chicken marinated in a sweet and savory glaze, perfect for a taste of Japanese street food at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb chicken breast, cubed
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp mirin
  • 1 tbsp sake
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • Vegetables of choice (bell peppers, onions, zucchini)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar to create the marinade.
  2. Add cubed chicken to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are coated. Let marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  3. Soak wooden skewers in water for 30 minutes to prevent burning.
  4. Thread marinated chicken and vegetables onto soaked skewers.
  5. Heat a grill pan or outdoor grill to medium heat.
  6. Grill skewers for about 15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and has a nice char.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions, alongside steamed rice or salad.

Notes

For a spicy kick, add sriracha or chili paste to the marinade. Ensure chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
