A crowd-pleasing green bean casserole that’s outrageously simple and delicious, perfect for family dinners and potlucks.

  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 4-6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans green beans (drained) or about 1 lb fresh, trimmed and lightly steamed
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz)
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1½ cups crispy fried onions (divided)
  • Pinch black pepper (and a little salt, maybe)
  • Optional: ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grab a 2-quart casserole dish.
  2. In a big bowl, mix green beans, soup, milk, pepper (and cheese, if using).
  3. Toss in half the onions and give it a quick stir.
  4. Scoop the mix into the dish and bake, uncovered, for 25-30 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle on the rest of the fried onions and bake for about 5 more minutes. For extra crispy onions, broil for 1 minute but watch closely.

Notes

You can assemble the casserole a day ahead and keep the onions off until baking to maintain crispiness. Great for leftovers!
