Description

These slice-and-bake heart cookies are a festive and easy Valentine’s Day treat that can be shaped, chilled, sliced, and decorated to your liking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups (312 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. Cream the unsalted butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy for about 2-3 minutes.
  2. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  3. Fold in the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder until the dough comes together.
  4. Divide the dough and roll it into two 10-inch ropes, then shape into heart-shaped logs.
  5. Wrap the logs tightly in plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
  6. Once chilled, slice the logs into 1/4-inch thick pieces.
  7. Place the slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 9-11 minutes until the edges are set.
  8. Cool on a rack and decorate as desired.

Notes

For best results, chill the logs overnight for the cleanest edges and use a sharp knife for slicing.
