Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter (3/4 cup), melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate (optional)
- 1 9-inch unbaked pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and crimp the edges if desired. Chill while making the filling.
- In a large bowl, combine the melted butter with granulated sugar and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- Add the eggs one at a time, whisking after each addition until the mixture is smooth and shiny.
- In another bowl, whisk together cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Gradually add this to the wet mixture, stirring until fully incorporated.
- If using, fold in the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate for added gooey texture.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pie crust and smooth the top.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes or until the top looks set but the center has a slight jiggle.
- Cool for 15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm, at room temperature, or chilled.
Notes
Make sure your ingredients are at room temperature for the best mixing results. For an extra chocolatey flavor, use high-quality cocoa powder and chocolate chips. Don’t overbake the pie; it should have a slight jiggle in the center when it’s done to keep it fudgy.
