Delicious homemade crispy fried sushi rolls that offer a satisfying crunch and flavor explosion, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 4 sheets nori
  • 1 cup fish or vegetable fillings (crab, avocado, cucumber, etc.)
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Soy sauce for serving
  • Pickled ginger and wasabi for serving
  • Optional: sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook sushi rice according to package instructions and let cool.
  2. Prepare your desired fillings and set aside.
  3. Place a sheet of nori on a bamboo mat and spread a thin layer of rice over it.
  4. Add fillings in a line along the center of the rice.
  5. Roll tightly using the mat, sealing the edge with a bit of water.
  6. In a bowl, whisk eggs and place flour and panko in separate dishes.
  7. Dip each roll in flour, then egg, and finally coat with panko.
  8. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Fry rolls until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  10. Drain on paper towels and let cool before slicing.

Notes

Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi. Experiment with fillings to create your favorite combination!
