- 2 cups sushi rice
- 4 sheets nori
- 1 cup fish or vegetable fillings (crab, avocado, cucumber, etc.)
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Soy sauce for serving
- Pickled ginger and wasabi for serving
- Optional: sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Cook sushi rice according to package instructions and let cool.
- Prepare your desired fillings and set aside.
- Place a sheet of nori on a bamboo mat and spread a thin layer of rice over it.
- Add fillings in a line along the center of the rice.
- Roll tightly using the mat, sealing the edge with a bit of water.
- In a bowl, whisk eggs and place flour and panko in separate dishes.
- Dip each roll in flour, then egg, and finally coat with panko.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry rolls until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
- Drain on paper towels and let cool before slicing.
Notes
Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi. Experiment with fillings to create your favorite combination!
