Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into two equal rectangles. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden and puffed.
  3. In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat until thickened, stirring constantly.
  4. In a bowl, whisk egg yolks and vanilla extract, then slowly add to the milk mixture to temper it. Cook for another minute.
  5. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  6. Whip the heavy cream and fold it into the cooled custard.
  7. Place one pastry layer on a serving dish, spread the custard over it, and top with the second pastry layer.
  8. Chill for a few hours or overnight.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Make sure the puff pastry is thawed before rolling it out and allow enough time for the Cream Slice to chill for proper setting.
