Delicious and easy-to-make Christmas sugar cookies that keep their shape and taste buttery, perfect for gifting or leaving out for Santa.
Ingredients

- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar until pale and creamy.
- Add the egg and vanilla, mixing until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Split the dough into two halves and flatten each half into a disk.
- Chill the disks in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into shapes using cookie cutters.
- Place cutouts on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are just golden.
- Remove from the oven and let cool before decorating.
Notes
For best results, roll the dough out between two pieces of parchment paper. Decorate cookies only when completely cooled.
