- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp orange zest (from 1 large orange)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¾ cup milk
- ½ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1–2 tbsp orange juice (for icing)
- 1 tsp orange zest (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a baking tray by greasing and lining it with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and orange zest.
- In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the sugar, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, milk, and orange juice, mixing until smooth.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking tray and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, mix powdered sugar, cocoa powder, melted butter, and orange juice to create the icing.
- Once the cake is cool, spread the icing over the top.
- Cut the cake into squares and serve at room temperature.
Notes
Serve with vanilla ice cream and garnish with fresh orange slices or berries. Store in an airtight container.
