Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp orange zest (from 1 large orange)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ½ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 12 tbsp orange juice (for icing)
  • 1 tsp orange zest (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a baking tray by greasing and lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and orange zest.
  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the sugar, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, milk, and orange juice, mixing until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking tray and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. While the cake is baking, mix powdered sugar, cocoa powder, melted butter, and orange juice to create the icing.
  7. Once the cake is cool, spread the icing over the top.
  8. Cut the cake into squares and serve at room temperature.

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream and garnish with fresh orange slices or berries. Store in an airtight container.
