Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb beef round steak (1-inch thick)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for gravy)
- 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
- 1 tsp black pepper (for gravy)
Instructions
- Tenderize the beef round steak with a meat mallet until it is about half an inch thick.
- Set up a breading station by whisking together the eggs and milk in one bowl, and combining the flour with salt and black pepper in another bowl.
- Dredge the steak by coating it in the flour mixture, dipping it into the egg mixture, and then coating it again with flour.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers. Fry the breaded steaks for about 3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Remove the steaks from the pan but leave the drippings. Melt the butter in the pan and whisk in the flour until smooth. Gradually add the beef broth while stirring until the mixture thickens. Season with black pepper.
- Serve the steaks topped with gravy alongside mashed potatoes or greens.
Notes
For extra flavor in the gravy, consider adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce or hot sauce. Make sure to tenderize the steak well for better texture.
