  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups stale bread cubes
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh herbs (thyme, sage, parsley)
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly spray a large baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the onion and celery; sauté until soft and fragrant (about 5 minutes).
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine stale bread cubes with the sautéed mixture and any remaining melted butter.
  4. Stir in fresh herbs, salt, and pepper. Gradually add chicken broth until combined but not soggy.
  5. Transfer to the prepared baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes; remove foil for an additional 10 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving alongside your favorite main dishes.

Notes

Use day-old bread for the best texture. Feel free to mix in other ingredients like cooked sausage or nuts for added flavor.
