Description

A classic dessert combining rich cake layers with creamy custard and chocolate ganache, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups whole milk (for custard)
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup high-quality chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bar
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the milk and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, and divide the batter into the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. For the custard, whisk together the whole milk, cornstarch, sugar, and egg yolks in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened. Stir in the vanilla extract and let it cool.
  6. For the ganache, heat the heavy cream until it simmers, then pour it over the chopped chocolate. Stir until smooth.
  7. Assemble the pie by layering the custard between the cooled cake layers and topping it with the warm ganache.

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results. Don’t overmix the batter for a light, fluffy cake.
