- 8 oz elbow macaroni
- 4 tbsp butter
- 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 4 cups milk
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the macaroni in boiling salted water until al dente, then drain.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add flour and whisk continuously for about 1 minute.
- Gradually add the milk, continuing to whisk until the sauce is thickened.
- Stir in the cheeses until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
- Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni, then transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
- Mix the breadcrumbs with melted butter and sprinkle over the top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
Notes
For a crispy topping, you can blend the breadcrumbs with parmesan cheese before sprinkling.
