- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 3 cups apples, peeled and diced
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 egg, beaten (for brushing)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add cold water gradually until dough forms. Shape into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- In a saucepan, cook diced apples with sugar and spices over medium heat until softened. Set aside to cool.
- Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface. Cut into squares and place a spoonful of apple filling in the center.
- Fold the corners over the filling and seal. Brush with beaten egg.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm.
