Description

A delightful pastry that combines flaky layers with sweet, spiced apples, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 3 cups apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 egg, beaten (for brushing)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Add cold water gradually until dough forms. Shape into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. In a saucepan, cook diced apples with sugar and spices over medium heat until softened. Set aside to cool.
  4. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface. Cut into squares and place a spoonful of apple filling in the center.
  5. Fold the corners over the filling and seal. Brush with beaten egg.
  6. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Let cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm.

Notes

Experiment with different fillings and toppings. Ensure ingredients are cold for best results.
